Planning Ideas

A Narrative is  simple storyline which can be broken down into a 5 step structure as follows:
1.      Exposition means an opening premise which sets the scene
2.      Development is a situation that’s built on and moves forward
3.      Complication is an event that changes the situation
4.      Climax when the film comes to a head (Decisive point bringing everything together)
5.      Finally the resolution which is when the outcome of the film has been reached

I understand that working on my own trailer /short film will include a lot of work this is because I’m aware that i will have to create everything on my own. Meaning i will take on the role of ;
·         Producer
·         Director
·         Planning & Scheduling
·         Accounts & Payroll
·         Distribution
·         Production Design
·         Art Director
·         Costume Design
·         Makeup & Hair
·         Casting Director
·         Animation & Special Effecs
·         Camera Operator
·         Lighting
·         Film Editor
·         Colourist
·         Sound Design
I feel that by making lists it enable me to become more organized as I can tick pointer off when i have completed them.
The genre i have chosen to portray within my trailer is “Horror”, there are certain codes and conventions which are known as rules.  Horror is an intense and profound fear , something that inspires dislike. Plots frequently involve death , the supernatural or mental illness.  The first movie was the silent short film ‘Le Manoir d Duable’ directed by Georges melies in 1896, it was the first Horror and first Vampire film. The movie only lasted 2 minutes , which adds stupendous suspense and tension. Sound , camera effects and make-up all create impact and terrify the audience. There are always certain characters which the audience expect in a horror film;
·         Ghouls/monsters /zombies /murderers /psychiatric patients/mentally disturbed/ convicts/ animals
·         Dumb personas/ Clever personas
·         Always a main character that’s hunted down.

Visual Style is important for the audience to develop their imaginations. Clothes are often torn or dirty and masks can be worn in order to disguise themselves, which will create a sense of enigma. Weapons are also used such as bloody knives, guns, clubs and general household objects.
Setting can be set in the day or night however the action in horror movies traditionally occurs in the night. Often dark places, old and creaky perhaps, either abandoned buildings that are damaged structures or run-down. Other examples include ;
·         Old mines
·         Derelict houses
·         Fields
·         House in normal neighbourhoods
·         Forest
·         University grounds
·         Schools
·         Old farms
·         Houses
·         Butchers
·         Lakes
·         The Countryside
Horror is based upon conflict and dilemmas the main characters endure, from the main set character types are chosen. The heroine or hero, evil monster and supporting characters. Iconography is included in horror films and follows a standardised pattern that won’t deviate from the original format. There’s a specific pattern within horror movies as they set up in order to address the audience, therefore making the genre identifiable. Iconography can be symbolic symbols which occur throughout all horror films including; The haunted house, symbols of death, the disfigured face or mask. The screaming victim and the knife.
